UB Faculty Developing Revolutionary Means of Drug Delivery
A recent article featured Futurity.org, a website dedicated to featuring “research news from top universities in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia,” highlights research done by UB assistant professor Shermali Gunawardena. Gunawardena, a researcher in the Institute for Lasers, Photonics and Biophotonics is currently working on a means of drug delivery through nanoparticles, which can travel to the brain, and which have shown no toxic effects in recent tests on fruit flies. This new technology could, potentially, be used to treat neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimers.
