Biological Systems
Biological Systems contains four major sub-groups and involves UB faculty across disciplines and fields of research.
Molecular Signaling
Molecular Signaling, which encompasses a core group of 25 investigators at UB and Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) whose research interests include molecular immunology, tissue-specific regulation of gene expression, the three R’s of DNA metabolism (Replication, Repair and Recombination), and molecular and cellular neurobiology.
DNA Replication and Repair
DNA Replication and Repair, which consists of a core group of 10 faculty members, five at RPCI and five at UB, whose research programs share common interests in DNA replication, DNA repair and recombination, and genomic integrity.
Developmental Genomics
Developmental Genomics, which is composed of an initial group of 13 developmental biologists with interests in diverse biological processes including morphogenesis, cell differentiation and the control of cell division. These interests range from the exploration of fundamental biological processes such as early embryonic development and embryonic and adult stem cells, through the creation and maintenance of specific organs and tissues, into the study of neurodegenerative and other diseases.
Witebsky Center for Microbial Pathogenisis and Immunology
The Witebsky Center for Microbial Pathogenesis and Immunology, which comprises a group of 14 investigators from the Medical School whose research focuses on molecular recognition, including self vs. non-self discrimination and the elicitation, generation, synthesis and functions of the molecules engaged in host defense.
