Detector Arrays

The image is a microphotograph of one of our detector arrays. The CMOS detectors have a micrograting on top, giving the appearance of different colors. The grid lines (too small to be visible here) are 270nm wide with a variable spacing of 270nm to 450nm.

Research Interests

Design and characterization of novel, custom integrated circuits for sensing applications system-level integration; integrated optoelectronic devices; artificial neural networks and artificial vision.

Summary of Research

We have been developing novel CMOS detector arrays for use with sensors at the nano and micro scales. Our designs enable us to tailor the detection scheme to the specific sensor application, improving measurement capability and sensitivity. We have also been studying methods for improving spectral response of CMOS photodetectors using multiple junction photodetectors and deep submicrometer metallic grids.

Specialized Instrumentation
