Research
Research Interests
Protein structure and function; membrane protein dynamics; voltage-sensitive ion channels.
Summary of Research
We are developing single molecule methods to study the mechanics and structure-function relationships of membrane proteins using fluorescence and laser trap based thermal-noise imaging. For this work we use various nanodot structures as markers and handles. In one particular study, we currently explore ways to use magnetic nanoparticles to trigger ion-channels and excitable cells.
Specialized Instrumentation
Laser trap, single molecule microscopy, high frequency magnetic fields.
