Research

Research Interests

Design and synthesis of photofunctional materials; molecular design; immobilization techniques; catalysis; solid supported organometallic compounds.

Summary of Research

Our research at UB will center around the development, synthesis, and characterization of novel photofunctional materials. Specifically, we will be looking at successfully immobilizing photoactive organometallic complexes on a variety of supports, from rigid silica supports to more flexible polymeric materials. The major focus of this work will be the development of structure-property relationships for these important materials

The end application of these materials will be environmental catalysis (water treatment), biomaterials (anti-cancer, anti-viral, anti-bacterial agents), and in energy efficient chemical transformations (oxidations, pharmaceutical synthesis).
